Add a TMG Class Rating to Your Licence

Looking to expand your flying privileges to include Touring Motor Gliders (TMG)? If you already hold a PPL(A) or LAPL(A), adding a TMG class rating is straightforward and a fantastic way to experience the flexibility of self-launching, engine-powered flight.

The goal of the TMG class rating course is to give you the confidence and competence to operate a TMG safely and effectively under normal, abnormal, and emergency conditions. Whether you’re transitioning from traditional single-engine aircraft or simply diversifying your flying, the process is efficient and rewarding.

Requirements for PPL(A) Holders

  • Minimum of 2 hours flight instruction in a TMG

  • Pass a TMG skills test with an examiner

No solo flying is required for PPL(A) holders, and the focus is primarily on mastering TMG-specific handling and emergency procedures.

Requirements for LAPL(A) Holders

  • Minimum of 3 hours of TMG flight instruction

    » Including 10 dual take-offs and landings

    » Plus 10 supervised solo take-offs and landings

  • Pass a TMG skills test with an examiner
